Update

I just wanted to update on how things are going.  We now are working with an adoption consultant who is helping us navigate through this adoption.  With the help of our consultant we now have a lot more opportunities for our profile to be shown which is great news, but this also means that we have to have all of the money ready when we are matched.  As most of you know we raised 60% of what we needed at our fundraiser and from other funds donated, but there is still the other 40%.  We are in the process of applying for grants and seeking God to provide the rest of the funds needed.
We trust God that no matter how long this process takes we will seek Him with all we have.  We are reminded of our favorite verse- For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Please continue to pray for us as we continue our journey to bring home baby He has for us.

If anyone out there has any other adoption grant information please share. Just last week one of the ladies in our small group told me about a grant.  So anything helps.

God is Amazing

God is Amazing.  We have been blown away by the love and support we have been given.  Thank you to everyone who came out and endured the heat to attend our fundraiser last night.  It was great to see the great crowd.  Between the tickets sold, the 50/50, and the silent auction we are excited to announce that we  raised 60% of what we need for the adoption.
We continue to pray for our little one and for God to lead the right birth mother to pick us to parent their child.

Answers to Questions People Have Asked

Many have asked where we are adopting from. We are adopting an infant of any race or gender from the United States. Our agency mainly works in Missouri and Illinois. Others have asked what agency we are working with. The name of our agency is Christian Family Services. It is a small agency in Webster Groves. We are happy to be working with them. Continue to pray with us for the baby God has for us. Everything will happen in His time.

Waiting

We are still trying to finish our profile book. It is almost there. Once we get it turned in the waiting really begins. We know God has the child that He wants for us and that He will make this known in His time. During this time we are in the process of working on a fundraiser to help us in raising he funds we need. In the end we will need $15,000 to $20,000. This is a huge amount and we are not sure how this is going to happen, but know that it is in God's hands. If you are interested in donating please feel free to do it here on our blog or send me a message at mattandliz@charter.net and I will get you our address. Please keep praying with us during this time.

Home Study

Our home study is finished. It ended up not being anything to worry about. Now we move on to finalizing our agency. We had 2 agencies that we were looking at, but found out that one is not taking any new families. Maybe God was closing the door. We have a meeting with the other agency tomorrow. Pray for us for clarity and His leading.

Our Story

Matt and I's key verse since we were dating has been Jeremiah 29:11-For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. We did not know how God was going to work in our marriage and lead us to where we are today. We have always know that we wanted to have a family. We thought when the time was right we would get pregnant easily. Well God had a different plan. We have gone through many test and procedures to find out that having biological children is not in His plan at this time. In the meantime God has placed adoption on both of our hearts. We met with a friend who has an organization that helps Christian couples with the adoption process. When we first met with her we were just exploring our options, not really sure what God was leading us to. God just kept bringing it back to our hearts. About a month ago we decided we were going to begin the process. So we began filling out the big stack of paperwork. I remember during this time thinking, we are never going to complete this. Well again God stepped in and gave us two snow days where we were stuck at home. It was just what we needed to get the paperwork completed. So that next week we had it done and in the hands of J. She contacted us the end of that week giving us a list of things that we needed to work on(gather more paperwork, get fingerprints, physicals, background checks, etc.) to have for our fist home study visit. We also had to read books and articles on adoption to prepare us for what is ahead. Matt is not a reader so I read the books to him. It was a great experience for us to really discuss what we were getting ready to experience. We had our first home study visit scheduled. So I spent a little time each night making sure the house was clean and ready for inspection. The day came, the house was clean, snack were made and J showed up. It was a time for us to go over the paperwork that we had already submitted, look at our home, and ask any questions that we had. All in all it was a great visit. J made it very relaxing and calmed our nerves right away. After that visit we will have one more where she will meet with us individually and then together again before she is ready to get to work writing out our home study report. We have our second visit on Friday. We know that it will be just as good as the first one. We are more than confident that we are following the plan that God has in store for us. We ask for each and every one who reads our blog will take time to pray for us as we travel this journey.
Matt and I wanted to start this blog to be able to share our journey of adoption with our family and friends.
